NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Scores Week 4

There were so many good games this weekend in NCAA Division 1 Men’s Lacrosse. A lot of them were between big-time schools as well, and not everyone you expected to win did. Several games went to overtime and a few that went down to the wire during regulation were decided by one goal. It is still very early in the season, and most all teams are trying to find their identity. Very few teams are still undefeated, and that speaks to the higher level of competition in Division 1 men’s lacrosse. That could not be any better news though, we get to watch the best competition going at each other every weekend with better and better games every year.

Notre Dame Finds the Luck of the Irish

Notre Dame with a huge momentum win for their season 14-13. After some bad offseason news and an early loss to Richmond they needed this one. This quality matchup needed some extra time to decide a winner. It was a game of runs as this one usually is. The Irish are slowly building up their new offense and it looked good at home Saturday. They had 8 players score a point, led by their attack trio Brendan Gleason, Brian Willetts with 5 a piece, and Connor Morin with 4. The Terps were plagued with some sloppy defense at times with a few failed clears. When they had the ball Maryland was able to put up some solid offense. Logan Wisnauskas led the team in scoring with 5 points followed by Jared Bernhardt, Anthony Demaio, and Kyle Long all with 4. Both teams play big games next with Notre Dame facing Denver and Maryland against Albany. After Maryland lost only 3 undefeated remain.

Towson Tigers Stun Another

Right now, Towson is looking like one of the top teams in the nation. Now they have beaten Johns Hopkins and Loyola both on the road very early in the season. It was the second week in a row that the top-ranked team was taken down. Towson played great defense all day and won by drawing out long offensive possessions. Keeping the ball away from great Pat Spencer and high powered Greyhound offense. Brendan Sunday led the pack for Towson with 5 points on the day. Loyola could not get going on O mainly because they did not have the ball much. It was a big game to learn from and get better for later in the season when it matters. The nation’s leading goal scorer Kevin Lindley added 6 more to his total. Pat Spencer was held to one goal but had 4 assists. The Tigers goalie Tyler Canto also made one of the top saves of the year, without a doubt, to go along with his 14 saves. Loyola already bounced back with a win against Holy Cross but now face Duke next. While Towson is preparing to head south to Jacksonville. Then they have a very rough stretch of Cornell, Duke, Denver.

Syracuse Drowns in the Dome

Syracuse suffers their second home loss to Virginia 14-15. The great rivalry went down to the wire in overtime. There were big runs in this game to force OT. The Orange were up by 4 with 10 minutes left in the game and gave it up. Both teams spread the wealth in the game with each team having 9 players register a point. This game was back and forth action all day. Syracuse was kind of a little lost of defense for most the day. That was their demise at the end of the day bad communication to leave a man wide open on the crease. Michael Kraus led the Cavaliers with a hat trick and 3 assists including the game-winning assist. It was a fierce rivalry all day long with good physicality. It was also a crucial game for both teams as the season goes on. Hopefully, Syracuse gets it together after that loss because they have a solid 4 game stretch coming up. Virginia absolutely needed this win and they are starting to mesh together and become the great team they can be.

Big Red Get A Big Victory to Stay Unbeaten

Cornell may move to the number one spot after sneaking out of this barn burner with a win. The end of the game was looking dark for the Big Red as even though they were winning Albany was cutting down the lead and fast. They were able to silence any Danes fans there with the final goal in the last 10 seconds. Albany won 25 of 27 face-offs showing they are still great at the X after losing Ierlan. The Great Danes were without Tehoka Nanticoke who was out dealing with an internal matter. They were led by Jakob Patterson with 3 goals 3 assists but they had points all over the board. Cornell played a good game for most of the day let up some big runs but scored when it mattered. The high powered offense put up numbers in bunches Jonathan Donville with 7, John Piatelli and Jeff Teat adding 5 points each. With a 1 goal win and 2 loses Albany is not liking where they are at but hope to improve quick on Tuesday against UMass. Cornell survives the scare but the defense looked a little shaky. We will see how they can handle some tough teams on both sides of the ball with Towson and Penn State coming up in the Crown Lacrosse Classic.

Hopkins Nets Battle of the Nerds

This was a much-needed win for Hopkins early in the year. The Blue Jays fought hard all game and found some adversity they weren’t showing to start the season. They never quit and kept fighting back in the game at one point put up 5 unanswered. This will really help build some momentum for Hopkins even though they said they left a lot on the field. We will get to see if they finally have it together as they have another tough matchup next against Syracuse. Hopkins was putting up points all over led by Cole Williams with the hat trick and an assist. Freshman star Joey Epstein had a rocky first half but battled through and ended with 3 points. Princeton’s high energy style just did not work for the whole game. They battled great all game, besides the 5 goal stretch they let up. The Tigers just need to tighten some things up and make a few adjustments and they are undefeated instead of 1-2. Stud Michael Sowers did his best putting up 2 goals 3 assists.
