Albany Mens Lacrosse vs. UMass Lowell Lacrosse
Albany (8-0) beats UMass-Lowell (4-5) 13-6. The nation’s top team went on the road and then took care of business in their second conference game. A low scoring performance displayed from Albany; but, through it all, they got the job done easily. Sean Eccles led the team in points with 5 goals 2 assists on 13 shots, even though he is not the usual offensive powerhouse of the Danes.
The deadly attack trio of Connor fields with 1 goal 2 assists, Tehoka Nanticoke with 4 goals 2 assists, and Justin Reh with 1 goal completed the team win. Their FOGO, TD Irelan, had a great day at the X. He went 20 of 21 at the X while picking up 12 ground balls along the way. Both teams goalies also had 20 saves in this match! The Seahawks were no match for Albany and were trying to fight back through the Albany onslaught all game. They went into halftime down 9-1, but UMass did happen to win the second half 5-4. Hard to come back from such a deficit against the best team out there; however, a really standout second half. UMass Lowell attackmen Matt Balter led the squad getting 3 goals and an assist in their attempt to dethrone the Danes.
Maryland Mens Lacrosse vs. North Carolina Mens Lacrosse
Maryland (7-1) beats North Carolina (6-4) 11-7. Both teams went out west to California for the Pacific Coast Shootout. North Carolina loses its fourth straight game after starting the season out 6-0. The Tar Heels were stuck in the old battle of trying to fight back the whole game. They were led by William Perry with 2 goals 1 assist and Chris Cloutier with 2 goals, including an impressive one-handed goal. The star senior for the Terps, Connor Kelly, put up 4 goals and Jake Bernhardt added a hat trick with an assist. Maryland had a lot of possession for most of the game, winning 16 out of 20 at the X on the day. We’ll see if North Carolina can break this losing streak going against their rival Duke next game.
Syracuse Mens Lacrosse vs. Duke Mens Lacrosse
Syracuse (4-3) beats Duke (8-2) 15-14. A very good game with back and forth action, plus a lot of scoring. Syracuse avoided going on a 3 game losing streak and got a big road win. The Orange had 9 different players score in the game with Brendan Bomberry leading with 4 goals. Stephen Rehfuss also had a big game netting 2 goals and dishing out 3 dimes. Syracuse played ahead or tied for about all of the game due to a lot of turnovers by the Blue Devils. Duke fought hard through all their lost possessions and kept it close all game. Their star, Justin Guterding, was held in check for most of the game only putting up 1 goals 2 assists. Brad Smith led in points with a hatty and 2 assists. Both goalies had 13 saves on the day.
Denver Mens Lacrosse vs. Towson Mens Lacrosse
Denver (6-2) beats Towson (3-5) 11-10 in OT. Denver survives a home scare behind Ethan Walker, putting in 5 goals 1 assist, and Colton Jackson, with 2 goals and an assist. The star face off man Trevor Baptiste went 21 for 24, 7 ground balls, and even had another multiple-goal game with 2 on the day. There were 0 goals scored by either team in the first quarter, and Towson actually went into the half up 4-1. The Pioneers had to get it together and put up a good second half which they did. The Tigers pushed this into overtime with good defense and Shane Brennan getting 13 saves. Towson spread the scoring with 4 players getting 2 goals.
Villanova Mens Lacrosse vs. Fairfield Mens Lacrosse
Villanova (7-2) beats Fairfield (3-7) 13-12 in OT. The Wildcats go through another overtime game this year, like all the others coming out on top. Villanova had 5 players score a point, compared to Fairfield’s 9; but, it’s never how you score. It’s how many.
The Wildcats pretty much had two players doing all the shooting and two players doing all the passing. Danny Seibel and Keegan Khan both had 6 goals. Christian Cuccinello notched 4 assists,, and Colin Crowley added 3 assists on the day. Fairfield was led by Travis Ford with 4 goals, and Dylan Beckwith had 2 goals 3 assists. The Stags had a good comeback scoring 6 in the third after being down 6-2.
Johns Hopkins Mens Lacrosse vs. Virginia Mens Lacrosse
Johns Hopkins (6-2) beats Virginia (7-3) 15-13 in a roller coaster of a ride. There was a clear up, and down, for each team; one team dominated each half. Virginia started fast and hot, going into halftime up 9-2. It was a game of scoring runs with Hopkins going on a 6 and 7 goal streak. It was just two different teams each half. The Blue Jays big producers showed up and performed, with Kyle Marr getting 4 goals 1 assist including a top 10 play. Joel Tinney had 2 goals, 3 assists, plus an absolutely filthy dangle. Also, Cole Williams and Connor Desimone each got a hatty. The Cavaliers were up by so much to start the game due to goalie Alex Rode getting 14 big saves throughout the game.
Virginia had three players total most of their points including star Michael Kraus with a big passing night getting 5 assists 2 goals. Dox Aitken put up 6 goals, and Ian Laviano also netted a hat trick. It was an amazing comeback for Johns Hopkins, and it’s always hard to come back 7 goals on the road against such a good team.
Notre Dame Mens Lacrosse vs. Ohio State Mens Lacrosse
Notre Dame (5-2) beats Ohio State (5-4) 9-8. After losing an overtime game to Michigan earlier in the week, Notre Dame finds a way to bounce back. A big factor in the Irish W was face off specialist John Travisano going 17 of 19, including winning every one in the second half. Travisano ended the day scooping 9 ground balls as well. The wings helped him out a lot; along with a great defensive effort all game.
Notre Dame rode hard all contest and caused several turnovers with it. It was a tied game at all 5’s heading into halftime. It was then only a 1 goal third quarter going to the Buckeyes. The fourth quarter came and Notre Dame decided to turn up the tempo. They caused turnovers and put in 4 to take the lead a W. The Irish had a balanced scoring attack Ryder Garnsey, Brendan Gleason, and Mikey Wynne all had 2 goals each. On OSU side their stud Tre Leclaire had a solid game putting 3 in the back of the net and adding 2 dimes. John Kelly had 3 points on a goal and 2 assists.
