One of the more notable moves this MLL season is Matt Gibson leaving the New York Lizards for the Atlanta Blaze. Gibson is one of the best ball handlers in the game, and his ridiculous handles make him a threat anytime the ball is near him. His presence could propel Atlanta to a championship and give him a much bigger role on the field. Gibson’s 34 points last season put him at 4th on the Lizards, but it would’ve tied him for 2nd on the Blaze. Without Rabil, Rob Pannell, Manny, and Walters on the same field, Gibson should be in a better position to be a star. This will have him matched up with a higher ranked defender on other teams; but, look to him to be a big performer in 2018.
LaxCon 2018 With StringKing Pro Matt Gibson
Matt Gibson was nice enough to speak with me for a few minutes at LaxCon, and I’m lucky to have gotten the time. More kids were having meaningful conversations with Matt than any other player I saw. Other players may have drawn bigger crowds, but Matt took the time to really connect with players. He was genuine and patient; it really made me appreciate his time that much more.
I got a few words of wisdom from the thoroughbred, and he kept a modest demeanor the entire time. It was really refreshing to have a conversation like that with a pro who loves the game like Matt. I only say this because not everyone is this way. Several pros were nice enough to talk with me at LaxCon 2018, but none were like Matt. It’s more of the listening and appreciation that Matt reciprocated that set him apart.
Best of luck Matt, and thanks again for letting us into your world of being a true lover of the game.
