At Stringers Society, we love to review the most innovative and unique products on the market. You might remember last May when we first discovered Isaac Merfalen, the creator of Fantum Lacrosse Shafts, and told the story of his hand made hollow lacrosse shafts. When meeting our friend Isaac for the first time at the Philadelphia LaxCon this year, he showed us his latest innovation; the Kong Lacrosse Shaft.
Kong Lacrosse Shaft Overview
Made for any lacrosse enthusiast, the Fantum Kong Lacrosse Shaft is a handmade hollow wooden lacrosse shaft with a unique design. The Fantum Kong lacrosse shaft consists of three main sections and two different handle thickness. The design of the Kong Lacrosse Shaft initially reminded me of one of those old tapered harrow lacrosse shafts, but the Kong embodies a fascinating construction with Isaac’s hollow design.
You will first notice the top of the lacrosse stick which is the typical diameter of a lacrosse stick and then soon transitions into the center section. The center section of the Fantum Kong lacrosse shaft is the bulk of the shaft, and the bulkiest part as well. This middle section is thicker than a standard lacrosse shaft with a wider diameter. Transitioning back to the standard width the bottom of the stick, the Fantum Kong shaft can be used with most butt ends on the market. Nick, our main content writer, covered the bottom section with an extra few layers, or ten, of tape to make it flush with the center section, so that is always an option as well.
Who is the Kong Lacrosse Shaft for?
From getting a casual toss at a Sunday Funday or just hitting the wall in your free time, the Kong shaft might be your next weapon of choice. While the Fantum Kong Lacrosse Shaft is legal for organized play, I think more lacrosse gear enthusiast will use it as an off the field stick. I use my Kong shaft all the time but not sure if I would risk breaking it in competitive play. I always enjoy having a set off the field weapon of choice, and the Fantum Kong is my favorite lacrosse shaft for getting in a comfortable toss. For those who want to use the Fantum Kong lacrosse shaft in competitive play, Isaac is crafting them in several different lengths built to dominate the field. For anyone going against a Fantum Kong lacrosse shaft from Isaac, good luck.
Isaac designed this bad boy for the bruisers, beaters, and ballers in lacrosse. If you play box lacrosse, D-middie, or defense and love laying the lumber, the Fantum Kong lacrosse shaft would be perfect for you. No one is going to want to mess with you if you have one of these in your hands.
Personalized for Players
Isaac Merfalen individually makes each Fantum Lacrosse Shaft by hand in his workshop based out of San Diego, California. Each shaft can be customized with a hand-drawn engraving by Issac himself, and Isacc creates his shafts with some of the highest quality materials. Lighter than a titanium lacrosse shaft, his hollow construction delivers one of the most unique feelings that I’ve experienced in a wooden lacrosse shaft. When cradling the ball, this design allows there to be a natural point where you can feel the ball sit in the low position of the pocket and ultimately delivering more feel when handling the ball. I love my Fantum Kong lacrosse shaft and consider it to be more personally valuable than my other lacrosse shafts because I know the care that went into making it and I feel it every time I use it.
