Faceoff specialists need a head and pocket built for the clamp: a quick, controlled pull and immediate possession. Faceoff heads are typically pinched and stiff, and the pocket is strung to match — tight, consistent and set up so the ball comes out of the scrum under control rather than rolling around in the channel.
Small changes to depth, sidewall tension and mesh make a noticeable difference at the X, which is why FOGOs tend to be particular about their stringing. The patterns below show faceoff setups from experienced stringers, each listing the head, depth and mesh used.
