About Defense Lacrosse Pockets

Defensemen and long-stick midfielders spend their time on checks, ground balls and clean outlet passes, so defense pockets favor forgiveness and durability over finesse. Wider, stiffer defensive heads are usually strung with a pocket that traps the ball on a scoop and holds it through contact, then still lets it go on a long clearing pass.

Higher and mid-high pockets are common for LSMs and close defenders who want a secure hold, and many pair them with durable, abrasion-resistant mesh that survives constant ground-ball play.
